Howe hails Cook's influence

16th April 2019, 16:57 by Aidan Perkins

Eddie Howe has paid tribute to Steve Cook, who he says is an "unbelievable character" upon his return to fitness for Bournemouth.

Cook was back in the Cherries' line-up for Saturday's impressive 5-0 rout of Brighton, even though he'd barely trained in the build-up to the game.

The three points against the Seagulls means Howe can now start planning for another season in the top flight and he has paid tribute to the defender, who underlined his worth to the side with a fine performance.

Howe told the Daily Echo: "Steve Cook returning was huge for us. His leadership, mentality and experience was just what the group needed. He's an unbelievable character.

"He hadn't done a lot of training for Saturday's game but is someone you can always rely on to give his best and inspire other people. Him coming back into the group was a big boost for the lads last week.

"Good players give you confidence and I think that's what he did on Saturday. I am full of praise for him and everyone who played around him."
