Bernardo sees Seagulls’ progress

10th September 2019, 10:28 by Alex Jack

Brighton defender Bernardo says he’s enjoying life at the Amex Stadium and feels the squad have made progress in the early stages of the season.

The 24-year-old Brazilian is currently in the midst of his second campaign with the Seagulls having arrived last term under previous manager Chris Hughton.

Bernardo impressed with his efforts in Austria and Germany with RB Salzburg and RB Leipzig before making the big move to the Premier League.

Now working under former Swansea City boss Graham Potter, Bernardo has been pleased with the development of the team and feels they are moving in the right direction despite recent results.

“I think we’ve done quite well so far, maybe if you look at the table it might not seem that impressive, but we’re showing a different style of football already and I think we can go on to achieve really good things this season,” he said.

“The fans can see what we’re trying to do and we’re still in the middle of a process where we’re developing every day. We are trying to do new things and I think we’re close to getting there, we have more possession and try to play from the back as you can see already – the most important thing is we keep working hard at it every day.”

The Seagulls, who picked up a win in their opening game of the season with a 3-0 victory at Watford, sit in 16th place in the Premier League table with four points from their first four games.

Brighton will be determined to bounce back from a 4-0 defeat at the hands of reigning champions Manchester City last time out when they face Burnley at the Amex Stadium on Saturday.

The Clarets also find themselves on fours points going into the first match after the international break.
