Bissouma backed by Hughton to keep developing

4th February 2019, 10:32 by Craig Smithson

Yves Bissouma has been backed by Chris Hughton to develop and push for more game-time at Brighton after impressing against Watford.

The Seagulls chief had to call on his £15million summer signing from French club Lille at the last minute when midfielder Dale Stephens pulled out injured in the warm-up ahead of the goalless draw at the Amex Stadium.

It was the Mali international's ninth league start, and, after a solid performance, Hughton expects the 22-year-old to push for more regular first-team football.

"Bissouma showed a lot of the qualities that he has," the manager told reporters.

"I think he needs more games and I think he'll continue to develop with us.

"He's a younger player with really good ability and was certainly not fazed by the late call-up."
