Clarke undergoes Brighton medical

19th June 2019, 17:49 by Tom Hill

Portsmouth star Matt Clarke is to undergo a medical after agreeing to join Premier League side Brighton.

The two clubs have been in discussions for several weeks and it appears that Brighton have won the race for the centre-back.

New Brighton coach Graham Potter has been tracking Clarke for several months and reports claim the two parties have agreed a £5million deal for the highly-rated 22-year-old.

Clarke has made 121 appearances since joining Portsmouth permanently in 2016 and he now appears ready to test himself at a higher level.

Pompey boss Kenny Jackett had confirmed on Wednesday morning that a deal had not been reached but it appears that talks have progressed.

Jackett told the club's official website: "Certainly, with the Matt Clarke situation there's been a lot of speculation. There has been a bid but nothing's been agreed yet in terms of him going.

"You know, I would say it's still in negotiation really."
