Duffy sets sights on Newcastle

25th April 2019, 11:07 by Gareth Freeman

Brighton star Shane Duffy is targeting a win over Newcastle at the Amex Stadium on Saturday as they push for survival.

Albion have picked up just one point in their last six games and sit just three points clear of the relegation zone.

Brighton have gone three games without a goal at home, and Duffy is desperate to end that run and pick up a vital three points this weekend.

"It's tough because the fans want to see goals going in and it has been a long time since we have scored a goal," he told The Argus.

"I understand completely where they are coming from but it's not through a lack of trying. Things are just not dropping for us.

"They have been brilliant for us all season and they know that so we just have to repay them on Saturday.

"A couple of goals and a clean sheet would be the perfect way."

Brighton's successes this season have been built on a solid defence and they have the best record at the back of all the teams in the bottom seven, and Duffy says they won't alter their style as they seek a win over Newcastle.

He added: "We have seen what has happened in the last couple of [home] games when we have tried to open up and score a few goals.

"Our identity is back and that is the most important thing.

"The goals will come off the shape."
