Late winner breaks Hughton's heart

24th April 2019, 00:50 by Michael Holland

Brighton boss Chris Hughton admitted to feeling heartbroken after Tottenham snatched a 1-0 win at the death last night.

Brighton weathered the storm for 88 minutes and looked like holding on for a precious point at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, until Christian Eriksen struck at the death.

The Seagulls, fighting for their lives at the wrong end of the table, defended with 11 men behind the ball, but could not see the game out.

Hughton admitted to feeling heartbroken after the game but is hoping his side can take heart from the loss and the goalless draw with Wolves over the weekend.

"That is very much the feeling at the moment," he said. "I genuinely felt that we had a little bit of fortune go our way, they hit the woodwork, and you get a feeling that it is going to come, but the longer it went on I thought we were going to hold out.

"If we managed the game a little bit better at the end we would have got the result we wanted. We're in a pressurised position but it is only us that have put us there.

"We need to take whatever we can from these last two performances and they have been 'better feel' performances for us."
