Seagulls need belief against big guns - Potter

3rd July 2019, 10:24 by Craig Smithson

Brighton must display more "belief and courage" when they face the Premier League's top teams next season, according to Graham Potter.

Potter, who replaced the sacked Chris Hughton at the Amex Stadium earlier in the summer, is aware that the team struggled in games against the top-six sides throughout the course of last term.

Indeed, it took them until May to pick up their first away point of the campaign against one of the top sides when holding Arsenal to a 1-1 draw at the Emirates Stadium.

And, the former Swansea boss wants the Seagulls' players to take that result into the new season to give them the confidence required to pick up points against the top six.

Potter told the club's website: "They are probably some of the best teams in Europe and it would be foolish for me to say anything else.

"We need to have that belief and courage, but just having that idea and those words doesn't mean you are going to do anything.

"But I also want us to have an attitude that you can lose any game.

"You can draw a Conference or League Two team in the cup and lose, that's the beauty of football, but at the same time you can also win.

"You need to have an idea, a plan and some luck - all that sort of stuff, but we want to go into every game with that humility and try to win."
