Dyche expects tough January

12th December 2019, 15:04 by Gareth Freeman

Sean Dyche isn’t expecting any major departures from Burnley next month but he feels it may be hard to bring new players in.

The Clarets boss hasn’t ruled out adding to his squad in the January transfer window, although he feels it will be tricky to bring in the right targets.

“It is forever tough [to sign players in January]. Unless Santa is very kind I don’t think we will have a wheelbarrow of cash. It’s a tough window full stop,” he told reporters on Thursday.

“We are looking at what options could come into the building. It is a doubt that you get anybody in, in January. It is hard but not impossible.”

Burnley could be in the market for a new central midfielder next month if Danny Drinkwater returns to Chelsea.

The former Leicester man moved to Turf Moor on loan in the summer and his current deal expires next month.

The manager is yet to make a call on whether or not to try and land Drinkwater for the rest of the season, and, if he does decide against extending the loan, Burnley will need to sign a replacement.

Dyche may be a bit pessimistic when it comes to possible arrivals but he is in confident mood when it comes to keeping hold of his star men.

Dwight McNeill has been linked with the likes of Manchester United, Juventus and Leicester City but Dyche says his club are under no pressure to sell, while chairman Mike Garlick has already stated the winger won’t be leaving next month.

On possible departures, Dyche said: “We are certainly not under pressure to sell anyone that is for sure, certainly not for financial reasons.”
