Pieters backing Burnley to slay “giant-killers”

20th September 2019, 13:48 by Dan McCarthy

Burnley defender Erik Pieters says he expects his side to give Norwich a tough game on Saturday at Turf Moor.

The Clarets head into the match against the Canaries with the onus on Daniel Farke’s men to repeat their heroics from last week.

With a monumental injury list, Norwich somehow managed to defeat champions Manchester City 3-2 and moved out of the relegation zone in the process.

Goals from Kenny McLean, Todd Cantwell, and Teemu Pukki defeated City but now they face a difficult looking trip to Burnley, even though they have started the season in an average fashion.

Sean Dyche’s men are currently 14th and looking for their first win since the opening day when they beat Southampton 3-0.

However, Pieters, a summer signing from Stoke, says it will not be easy for Norwich when they arrive.

“That’s the beauty of football, everyone can win against each other so you have to believe you can win every single game,” said the Clarets’ defender.

“You have to look at yourself. They had a very good win last weekend, but they have to come to us now.

“We have to make sure it won’t be an easy game for them, and we have to take the three points.

“What happened last week is beautiful for them. It’s good that we nicked a point at Brighton in the last minute, but it’s a new week – a new game and starts at 0-0 with 90 minutes to play.”

Burnley will hope to get their second victory of the season and punters can use their free bet to back them at evens.
