Bowen reveals Cardiff call

13th March 2019, 16:52 by Jack Ogalbe

Hull's Jarrod Bowen has revealed he rejected the chance to join Premier League Cardiff during the January transfer window.

The 22-year-old has impressed for the Tigers this season, scoring 19 goals in all competitions to attract the attention of a number of top-flight clubs, most notably Tottenham.

However, it was Cardiff who made their move, submitting a £12m bid near to the deadline following the tragic disappearance of Emiliano Sala.

Bowen says that under normal circumstances he would have jumped at the opportunity but admits he felt uncomfortable with the thought of being seen as a replacement for the Argentinian, who himself had only recently joined from Nantes.

"The whole situation was very uncomfortable," Bowen told the Daily Mail. "Of course, it was nothing to do with how I view Cardiff as a club, and any player will tell you it's their dream to play in the Premier League.

"But the whole story around Sala was just so tragic.

"Of course, any transfer would have needed Hull's approval in any case but from my personal point of view it was never a starter, not under those circumstances. It just felt wrong."
