Abraham sends warning to Liverpool

18th September 2019, 11:20 by Bobbie Jackson

Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham says they are ready to take their "anger" out on Liverpool in the Premier League this weekend.

The Blues appeared to be gathering a bit a momentum, having enjoyed a four-game unbeaten streak in the Premier League, but they fell to a narrow defeat in the Champions League on Tuesday.

Indeed, it was their first loss across all competitions since the opening day 4-0 defeat at the hands of Manchester United.

Valencia snatched a 1-0 win at Stamford Bridge in Tuesday’s European tie but Chelsea should have taken something from the match.

Mason Mount’s early injury proved to be hugely detrimental, however, they still created chances and were gifted the opportunity to level from the penalty spot late on.

But Ross Barkley failed to convert from 12 yards and they have been left playing catch up in the elite European competition.

Chelsea return to action in the Premier League on Sunday when they go up against leaders Liverpool in west London.

Abraham insists the Blues will be desperate to release their frustration and has sent a warning to their league rivals.

“(Sunday) is a test of character. We can take our anger out against Liverpool,” Abraham said at Stamford Bridge.

“It’s a massive game and both teams will be going to win. We’ll look forward to putting (tonight’s defeat) right.”

Liverpool, who lost to Napoli in the Champions League on Tuesday, have won all five of their Premier League games this season.

They beat Chelsea on penalties in the UEFA Super Cup final in August but they’ve failed to win on their last two league visits to Stamford Bridge.

Abraham has impressed as the main man up at the top for Chelsea this term, having scored a hat-trick at the weekend to take his tally to seven goals, and he has vowed to keep giving everything for Lampard.

He added: “I’m playing with such great players who create chances, so I just have to be in the right place at the right time. It’s always nice to know manager believes in you. Every game you want to do your best for him.”
