Blues boss wants Kovacic stay
Chelsea loanee Mateo Kovacic could be handed the chance to join on a permanent basis, according to Maurizio Sarri.
The Croatian agreed a season-long loan switch from Real Madrid last summer and he has featured 28 times in the Premier League.
Sarri has been impressed with former Inter Milan midfielder and fits perfectly with his style of football and feels he has a role to play at Stamford Bridge long-term.
When asked whether he wanted to enter the market for another midfielder this summer, Sarri said: "No, I want to try with Kovacic.
"He is only on loan, of course, but I'd like very much that Kovacic will stay with us. You know very well that, in that position, we have some problems because we have only Jorginho.
"In my opinion, Kovacic could become a very good central midfielder. Of course, he is not a defensive midfielder (at the moment) but, as you know, in that position I prefer a very technical player."
Kovacic doesn't appear to have a future at the Bernabeu so a permanent switch is likely to be welcomed by Zinedine Zidane.
However, Chelsea's biggest issue lies with FIFA as they wait to learn if their appeal against a two-window transfer ban is successful on Thursday.
