Blues midfielder set for Championship switch

22nd July 2019, 15:40 by Bobbie Jackson

Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher is reportedly on the verge of joining Championship side Charlton on loan.

The 19-year-old has been a regular in Chelsea's youth ranks over the past few seasons but he is not regarded as ready to fight for a first-team spot.

He scored four goals in 16 appearances for the Under-23s in 2018-19 and is eager to experience senior football next season.

Frank Lampard made an early statement after his appointment by cutting Gallagher for their pre-season squad and Charlton are ready to pounce.

The Addicks are working on a tight budget after earning promotion to the second-tier and Lee Bowyer is prepared to take a gamble on the youngster.
