Chelsea v Sheffield United Team News

30th August 2019, 14:47 by James Mason

Chelsea will be looking for their second win of the Premier League season on Saturday when they play host to Sheffield United.

The Blues picked up their first league victory under manager Frank Lampard last weekend with an entertaining 3-2 triumph at Norwich City and they will be confident of keeping that momentum going on home soil.

Five-time Premier League champions Chelsea are unbeaten in 10 home league fixtures – winning six and drawing four – and they have managed to keep clean sheets in six of those games.

Mason Mount, who was called up to England’s squad on Thursday for the upcoming Euro 2020 qualifiers, has started the season off in impressive fashion and he is looking to score in three consecutive appearances for the first time in English league football.

Lampard has confirmed France international N’Golo Kante is unavailable due to an ongoing ankle problem and he will not be travelling with Les Bleus’ squad either for their clashes against Albania and Andorra.

Spanish forward Pedro has also been ruled out of the contest while German defender Antonio Rudiger continues his recovery from injury for the development squad on Friday evening.

The English boss also revealed Kenedy and Tiemoue Bakayoko “could move on before the end of the European transfer window” and the duo are unlikely to be included in Saturday’s matchday squad.

Chelsea have also found out their Champions League fate, having been drawn against Ajax, Valencia and Lille in Group H, and Lampard warned the draw is “no walkover and we’ll have to be fully on-guard to progress”.

United head to SW6 on the back of a 2-1 League Cup victory over Blackburn Rovers on Tuesday but they are looking to win at Stamford Bridge for the first time since October 1992, when Adrian Littlejohn and Brian Deane scored in a 2-1 win.

The Blades are winless in 11 Premier League away matches – drawing two and losing nine – since a 1-0 victory at Wigan in December 2006 and they will need to be at the top of their game if they are going to change this statistic.

United are hopeful midfielder John Fleck will feature after missing out last week with a hamstring strain but Kean Bryan is a doubt after suffering an ankle injury in the win against Blackburn.

Record signing Oliver McBurnie, who arrived this summer from Swansea City for a fee that could potentially rise to £20million, is pushing for his first Premier League start after three substitute appearances.
