Chilwell remains a target for Premier League’s big guns
Leicester City defender Ben Chilwell could be the subject of a transfer battle between Chelsea and Manchester City next summer.
The England international was linked with a move away from the King Power Stadium over the summer but ended up sticking with the Foxes.
Man City instead moved to land Joao Cancelo from Juventus, who is primarily a right-back but can operate on the opposite flank, while Chelsea are under a transfer ban and were unable to add to their squad.
The Stamford Bridge side are in the process of attempting to get their ban overturned and may be able to sign players in the winter window, but it seems more likely any interested parties will be better served trying their luck with a move for Chilwell next summer rather than in January.
Leicester sit fourth in the Premier League table going into the international break and if they remain involved in the battle for European qualification as the January window approaches they are unlikely to entertain any offers for their star performers, and the left-back falls in that category.
It could be a different story at the end of the season however, and reports claim Man City and Chelsea are set to go head-to-head for the defender’s signature next summer.
Leicester will demand a fee in excess of £50million for the 22-year-old, who has spent the entirety of his career with the Foxes aside from a brief loan spell with Huddersfield.
Chilwell has made 96 appearances across all competitions for Leicester and he seems set to see out the season with the club but a move next summer could well be on the agenda, and it has been claimed the Foxes are already on the hunt for a potential replacement should either the Premier League champions or Chelsea come calling.
