French target eyed by Blues
Chelsea are targeting Lille sporting director Luis Campos, for whom the French want £2.6m compensation, but Roma are also interested.
Goal claim Chelsea and Roma have both held talks over the possibility of appointing the ex-Monaco transfer guru, who was linked to the Blues last month by France Football.
Chelsea have operated without a technical director since Michael Emenalo left 18 months ago, with Marina Granovskaia absorbing transfer dealings into her role.
But the club are understood to have been considering hiring a new football director since the exit of Emenalo, with ex-player Juliano Belletti reportedly among the names on their radar. However, talks over hiring the Brazilian failed to bear fruit.
The role is crucial to Chelsea's immediate future, with Fifa preparing to restrict the club's loan army and in the wake of the current transfer ban, which would restrict the club's ability to sign players.
Roma are also considering Campos after their sporting director Monchi left the club in March to go back to his former job with Sevilla.
