Chelsea

Hudson-Odoi likely to make full Prem debut

29th March 2019, 15:33 by Aidan Perkins

Callum Hudson-Odoi is set for his first Premier League start for Chelsea at Cardiff on Sunday after impressing for England.

Hudson-Odoi is one of the hottest young talents around and further enhanced his growing reputation with a fine display for the Three Lions when making his first start for his country against Montenegro on Monday.

The fact the 18-year-old has started for England before making his full Premier League bow shows his rapid rate of progress and Blues boss Maurizio Sarri is now expected to name him in his XI for the trip to struggling Cardiff.

Sarri was asked in his press conference if he thinks the youngster will stay at Stamford Bridge this summer after reportedly handing in a transfer request in January amid interest from Bayern Munich.

Hudson-Odoi's contract runs out in June 2020 but Sarri thinks he will remain at the club.

He said: "I think so. I think so. I'm not able to say he's going to sign a contract or not, but I think he will stay here with us in every case."

Chelsea will monitor Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Ethan Ampadu, both of whom missed international duty because of back problems, as they look to keep the pressure on Manchester United, Arsenal and Tottenham above them in the race for a top-four finish.
