Kante backs RLC to shine

14th September 2018, 10:54 by James Mason

Chelsea midfielder N'Golo Kante insists Ruben Loftus-Cheek is "ready to play" if required.

Loftus-Cheek impressed whilst on loan at Crystal Palace last season and his consistent displays earned him a place in Gareth Southgate England's squad for the 2018 World Cup in Russia.

The 22-year-old was linked with a permanent switch to Selhurst Park this summer but the Blues opted to keep hold of the midfielder, who has made just two substitute appearances in this campaign.

World Cup winner Kante, who has been a prominent figure for Chelsea since arriving from Leicester City in 2016, has now tipped RLC to impress if handed an opportunity by manager Maurizio Sarri.

"When I came to Chelsea Ruben was already here and for sure he is a good player," he told Sky Sports. "Now he's in the England squad. He did well last season at Crystal Palace and I think he's ready to play.

"He's played some good games and now it's the manager's decision. We all have the chance to be at Chelsea and to play with some of the best players in the league.

"We can all learn from that but he needs to keep working, to keep improving and I hope it will come at the right time."
