Willian confident of successful Chelsea contract resolution
Willian says he hopes to have some "good news" on his contract situation soon as talks between Chelsea and his agent continue.
The 31-year-old’s current deal runs until the end of the season and he will be free to speak to non-English clubs next month regarding a pre-contract agreement, with a view to leaving on a free transfer in the summer.
Barcelona have been linked with the Brazil international on and off over the last year, with Willian recently revealing Chelsea turned down an offer of £50million from the Spanish giants during the last transfer window.
Barca remain keen to speak to the former Shakhtar Donetsk man in January, while Atletico Madrid are understood to be keeping a close eye on the situation.
Juventus have also been mentioned but head coach Frank Lampard is likely to fight hard to retain his services, having reserved special praise for Willian earlier in the season, calling on him to commit his future to the club.
Willian has spent the last six-and-a-half-years at Stamford Bridge and remains a key part of the first-team squad despite the ever-changing coaching staff in west London.
The South American has made 21 appearances for Lampard’s Blues this season, scoring three goals and contributing four assists in what has been a strong start to the campaign.
Willian has now given his clearest indication that he wants to remain at Chelsea by revealing negotiations over a new deal are taking place behind the scenes.
He told Yahoo Sport: “I have stated several times my wish is to stay at Chelsea. I like the club very much, I feel very welcomed here, as well as my family, and we love living in London.
“However, I’m in the middle of the season and I try not to think about it, so as not to lose focus on the field. My agent and the club are talking and I hope we can have some good news soon.”
