Bundesliga lure for Palace's top loan target
Schalke are reportedly ready to hijack Crystal Palace's bid to sign Liverpool striker Dominic Solanke on loan.
Sport Bild claim the Bundesliga club are keen to snap up the young Englishman from Anfield this month, despite the Eagles having admitted their interest and reports that the player is also keen on a move to Selhurst Park.
"It's no secret he's a target," said manager Roy Hodgson on Sunday. "What would he do? Provide an attacking threat. He's a proven goalscorer through all the age groups at (former club) Chelsea and England.
"If he comes here, it'll be up to him to show he can do that in Premier League football.
"He's someone with the profile we're looking for, and the ability we are looking for."
However, Schalke seem set to challenge for Solanke's signature, also on loan, with the German club's sports director Christian Heidel enjoying a close connection to Reds coach Jurgen Klopp, which could be to their advantage.
The 21-year-old could also view the success that English talents Jadon Sancho and Reiss Nelson have had in Germany as a factor in his decision, although Ruben Loftus-Cheek can testify to the benefits of a spell at Selhurst Park.
