Eagles star's sympathy after goal run continues
Patrick van Aanholt expressed his sympathy to Huddersfield fans after the club became his third relegation victim in three seasons.
The Palace left-back scored his second goal of the season in the Eagles' 2-0 win over the Terriers on Saturday and, as other results went against them, the West Yorkshire club became only the second ever Premier League side to have their relegation confirmed in March.
Remarkably, it was the third straight season in which the Dutchman has scored in a game when an opposing side have had their descent back to the Championship rubber-stamped.
Back in 2017, Van Aanholt scored in Palace's 4-0 home win over Hull City, which set the seal on the Tigers relegation, while a year later he scored in a 2-1 win over Stoke, which ended the Potteries side's survival hopes.
"Best wishes to Huddersfield and fans as well, it's tough and not nice to see but you support your club well," he tweeted on Saturday.
