Hodgson full of praise for Guaita

27th December 2018, 13:56 by Tom Hill

Crystal Palace coach Roy Hodgson has thanked goalkeeper Vicente Guaita for his performance in the 0-0 draw with Cardiff City.

The Spaniard has stepped into the first team after Wayne Hennessey suffered an injury earlier this month.

He helped Palace beat Manchester City last weekend before turning in after another strong display on Boxing Day.

Guaita denied Kadeem Harris with a superb stop and Hodgson was pleased to finish the game with a point.

The former England manager told News Shopper: "We have to thank our goalkeeper for keeping a clean sheet.

"All the time it's 0-0 you're never safe and a long punt down the field, a mistake from Mamadou [Sakho] trying to cushion the ball to Tomkins gives them a clear-cut goal chance.

"We have to bite the bullet, we would have liked to have won this game, adding to the three points we got at Manchester City, but there's always a team as equally determined as you are to get a good result from the game, and that what we found here today with Cardiff, they came here with a good defensive set-up, a good plan and were determined to make sure they didn't lose the game, as we were determined to win it."
