Palace set sights on Everton midfielder McCarthy

29th January 2019, 14:59 by Gareth Freeman

Crystal Palace are reportedly keen to sign midfielder James McCarthy on loan from Everton for the rest of the season.

McCarthy sustained a double leg fracture a year ago but has now returned to fitness.

The 28-year-old is yet to feature under Everton boss Marco Silva, who took charge in May, since returning to fitness and is behind the likes of Andre Gomes and Idrissa Gueye in the pecking order.

Palace boss Roy Hodgson wants to strengthen his midfield options in the winter window and a loan move for the remainder of the campaign could suit all parties, as McCarthy seeks regular game time following his lengthy injury absence.

However, reports claim Gueye has submitted a transfer request after Everton knocked back a bid from Paris Saint-Germain and that could complicate any Palace move for McCarthy.

Silva has stressed Gueye is not for sale but if Everton are forced into selling the the Senegal international ,they may be reluctant to allow another midfielder to depart in January.
