Watford v Crystal Palace Team News

6th December 2019, 13:58 by Bobbie Jackson

Watford will be desperately seeking a win when they return to home soil against in-form Crystal Palace on Saturday.

The Hornets head into this weekend’s clash at Vicarage Road sitting rock-bottom, seven points from safety, after winning just once this season.

Watford are currently seeking a new manager after parting company with Quique Sanchez Flores for the second time after losing to Southampton on November 30.

Hayden Mullins has been placed in temporary charge and will oversee his second game in the dugout following Wednesday’s 2-0 defeat at Leicester.

Back on their own patch, Watford fans will be hoping for a better performance as they look to finally get their season up and running.

Christian Kabasele and Roberto Pereyra are set to boost Mullins’ options after recovering from thigh and hamstring injuries respectively.

The duo haven’t featured since the win over Norwich on November 8 but are in contention for a spot in the matchday squad.

Jose Holebas, Tom Cleverley and Sebastian Prodl remain on the sidelines, while Craig Dawson is making good progress on his recovery but still needs more time.

Troy Deeney made just his third start of the season against the Foxes last time out, getting 87 minutes under his belt, and is set retain his spot.

Palace have found form over recent weeks, claiming back-to-back wins over Burnley and Bournemouth, and are seventh in the table.

They haven’t conceded a goal since November 23 and have only tasted defeat once in their last four on the road in the league.

Roy Hodgson was delighted to see his 10 men battle to victory over the Cherries last time out with injuries also making life extremely difficult.

Patrick Van Aanholt had to leave the field before half time with a hamstring problem and he will miss the trip to Vicarage Road.

Hodgson’s defensive issues weren’t helped by Mamadou Sakho’s sending off at Selhurst Park and he will need to shuffle the pack again.

Gary Cahill and Scott Dann could ease matters after short stints on the sidelines, with Hodgson admitting at least one of them should be back in the fold.

Max Meyer is unavailable due to illness while Joel Ward isn’t ready to return following a knee injury.

Palace and Watford squared off on three occasions last season with the latter winning all of those fixtures 2-1.
