Derby remain keen on Pennington
Derby are reportedly still interested in agreeing a deal with Everton for defender Matthew Pennington in the summer.
The 24-year-old is a graduate of Everton’s academy and has gone on to make seven Premier League appearances for the senior side, scoring once.
But he has struggled to force his way in on a regular basis and is currently on-loan with struggling Championship outfit Ipswich.
Previous loan spells with Leeds, Walsall, Coventry and Tranmere have helped Pennington to continue his development away from Goodison Park.
It’s understood that Derby attempted to snatch Pennington away from Ipswich to take him on loan in January, however, Frank Lampard admitted it was “too late” when they made contact on transfer deadline day.
Reports claim Lampard remains interested in the central defender and Derby could return for his services at the end of the season.
He is unlikely to be handed many opportunities on Merseyside in 2019-20 and a move to the Rams could be very attractive, especially if they do manage to win promotion to the top-flight.
