Jagielka backs midfielder recall
Everton defender Phil Jagielka says Morgan Schneiderlin has earned his recall to the side after impressing in training.
Schneiderlin has been out in the cold for most of the season but a poor run of form for Marco Silva’s team saw him restored to the starting XI against Cardiff last week for the first time since mid-September.
He impressed in that game as Marco Silva slightly altered his formation and kept his place in the side that stopped Liverpool from finding the net in the goalless Merseyside derby draw.
Jagielka, who himself only made his third appearance of the season against Cardiff, says Schneiderlin has been duly rewarded for his “fantastic” attitude on the training ground.
“Morgan has been fantastic in training and that is all you can ask for,” Jagielka told evertontv.
“He wasn’t sure if he’d get to play with others ahead of him but he kept his head down and at Cardiff he showed glimpses of what he was like when he first came.
“Confidence plays a big part in that and maybe he felt a bit freer against Cardiff – with the way he played, not only defensively, but going forward.
“I thought his passing was fantastic, so hats off to him and Gana in midfield.”
