Lossl sends warning to Everton number one
Jonas Lossl has sent a warning to Everton number one Jordan Pickford by suggesting he isn't at the club to just provide cover.
Everton drafted in the Denmark international on a free deal over the summer following Huddersfield’s relegation from the Premier League.
He spent two seasons in West Yorkshire with the Terriers, making 69 Premier League appearances, and was the preferred option between the sticks for both David Wagner and Jan Siewert.
However, he finds himself in a very different situation at Goodison Park, with Pickford, who is also England’s number one, the first pick for Marco Silva.
Pickford has made some errors at Everton since joining from Sunderland in a deal worth around £30million in the summer of 2017 although for the most part his performances have been of a high standard.
Lossl has pretty much always been the number one at every club he’s represented since making his senior debut for Danish side Midtjylland in 2008.
The 30-year-old made that position his own by the 2010-11 campaign and also started the majority of games during his time with Guingamp and Mainz.
Silva is yet to offer Lossl any minutes in the early stages of 2019-20. However, the Dane isn’t getting disheartened and insists he will do everything in his power to force his way into the plans of the Portuguese.
Lossl told Danish publication Tipsbladet: “I believe 100 per cent that I can become a first-team player here. Whether it is while Jordan (Pickford) is here or when he’s gone, I don’t know. But I believe it.
“I would not have moved here if I did not have faith that I could succeed. I would like to make that very clear.”
Lossl’s chances of usurping Pickford currently look bleak, with the England stopper even holding on to his spot for the Carabao Cup win at Lincoln.
