Pickford eyes flying start to 2019

31st December 2018, 12:15 by Jack Ogalbe

Jordan Pickford has demanded Everton make a winning start to 2019 by beating Leicester on Tuesday.

The Toffees have endured a mixed campaign to date, currently sitting 10th on the back of Saturday’s 1-0 defeat at Brighton.

While they won 5-1 at Burnley on Boxing Day, Marco Silva watched his side go down 6-2 at home to Tottenham on their last outing before Christmas and the club are three without a win on their own turf.

Any potential run at the European spots will require a run of improved results at Goodison Park and Pickford believes they can set the tone with a victory over the Foxes on New Year's Day.

"Leicester is another tough game and it comes less than 70 hours after we finished at Brighton but we haven’t won for three games at home and need to get that momentum going," Pickford told evertontv.

"If we get that result, it will spark a good start to the new year. We did not get the result we wanted to finish off 2018 but that is football and we have another game to turn it around in a short space of time."
