Sigurdsson hopes to dent Liverpool title hopes
Gylfi Sigurdsson says he hopes Everton can derail Liverpool’s title bid on Sunday as revenge for their late loss in November.
A howler from Toffees keeper Jordan Pickford allowed Divock Origi to score from a simple tap in to give Liverpool a last-gasp winner in their last meeting.
It was a result that was the catalyst for Everton to have a bad end to 2018 and beginning to 2019, with some sections of the Goodison faithful calling for Marco Silva to be dismissed.
However, they won serenely at Cardiff 3-0 on Tuesday with Sigurdsson netting two of the goals.
The Icelandic midfielder hopes they can progress on the back of that win and beat Liverpool when they meet at Goodison on Sunday.
“Of course, yes,” Sigurdsson replied when asked if Everton would love to check the title hopes of their city rivals.
“But it doesn’t matter where they are in the league.
“You always want to win these games, especially after the disappointing ending to the game the last time we played them.
“To lose a derby game like that, being so close to a good point away from home, was very disappointing.
“These are the games you are looking forward to before the season starts.”
