Accomplished Bacuna impresses Siewert

6th March 2019, 10:20 by Chris Rivers

Huddersfield coach Jan Siewert says Juninho Bacuna has the characteristics to play at right-back after filling in against Brighton.

The Dutchman has predominantly been used as a midfielder since Siewert took charge but the German tactician has deployed the 21-year-old at right-back in the Terriers' last two matches.

Bacuna started in defence in Saturday's narrow 1-0 loss to Brighton before being forced to switch back to midfield when Jon Stankovic left the field just after the hour mark.

Siewert is delighted to have a player as versatile as Bacuna to call upon and says he earned his trust to start at right-back having impressed him in training.

"Baca came to the position very well once again, I think, and then, because of the substitution of Jon Stankovic, I had to bring him in the middle (of midfield)," he told the Huddersfield Examiner.

"It is not easy in such a moment. It's not easy.

"He is a very good character and I told him I needed his aggression in winning balls. Juninho has certain characteristics which you need for the position.

"He showed them, and this is why he was my choice to go on in the right-back position."
