Huddersfield deliver injury update

23rd April 2019, 18:10 by Tom McGarry

Huddersfield are monitoring the fitness of a number of first-team players ahead their Premier League clash with Liverpool on Friday.

Head coach Jan Siewert made five changes to his starting line-up for Saturday's 2-1 home defeat to Watford, with Jonas Lossl, Tommy Smith, Aaron Mooy, Isaac Mbenza and Steve Mounie all returning to the starting line-up.

With Huddersfield's relegation having long been confirmed, Siewert has taken the opportunity over recent weeks to utlise his squad as he starts making plans for life back in the Championship next season.

However, the German could be forced into some further changes for Friday's trip to Anfield, with Mbenza, who lasted 81 minutes against Watford, needing to be assessed as he continues his comeback from a calf injury.

Friday's match is also likely to come too soon for forward Laurent Depoitre, who is back in training following a foot injury, but the Terriers would prefer to give him some minutes in a practice match before thrusting him back into first-team action.

Midfielder Philip Billing is expected to come back into contention after being omitted from the squad to face Watford with an unspecified problem, while Karlan Grant, who came on as a substitute to score in that match, should also be fully fit following a bout of illness.
