Terriers sweat on Hogg for Cottage trip

28th December 2018, 15:48 by Craig Smithson

Jonathan Hogg is in a race to prove his fitness in time for Huddersfield's Premier League trip to relegation rivals Fulham on Saturday.

The Terriers midfielder was left on the substitutes' bench for the 3-1 Boxing Day defeat at Manchester United because of a knee issue and boss David Wagner will make a decision on if he starts at Craven Cottage after assessing him closer to the time.

Wagner has no new injury concerns, but midfielders Aaron Mooy and Danny Williams remain out with knee injuries, while defender Tommy Smith and Abdelhamid Sabiri are absent with respective hamstring and collarbone problems.

Summer signing Ramadan Sobhi will not be involved because he has completed a loan switch back to former club Al Ahly, while winger Rajiv van La Parra is expected to seal a loan move to Middlesbrough.

Wagner refused to discuss the possibility of bringing in new faces in January due to the importance of Saturday's game, which is the start of a three-match run against teams around them in the table with Burnley and Cardiff to follow.

"Yes, these games are big," Wagner said. "There is no shadow of a doubt about this, these are big games, massive games for us.

"I don't like to look too far ahead. I only like to look to the next one and this is a big game for both teams.

"This is why we are totally focused on it and we will prepare as good as we can against a team which we faced only seven or eight weeks ago at home, even if they have a different style which they play."
