Newport debacle fires Albrighton

11th January 2019, 10:58 by Aidan Perkins

Marc Albrighton says Leicester City they have to respond following the FA Cup humbling against Newport County when Southampton visit.

The Foxes suffered a humiliating cup exit at the third-round stage on Sunday when they were beaten 2-1 by the League Two side but must quickly refocus back on the league.

They entertain the Saints on Saturday and Albrighton knows they must make amends.

"The good thing about football is that you get the chance to put it right as quickly as possible," he said on the club's website. "We’ll aim to do that.

"We’re at home, so it makes it even better for us, we’ve got the crowd behind us and we’ll look to start well in the game and put last week to bed."

Albrighton is aware Saints will be a tough prospect under new boss Ralph Hasenhuttl, who has guided the south-coast club to recent wins over Arsenal and Huddersfield, while they held Chelsea to a goalless draw at the start of the month too.

He added: "We’ve had two close games against Southampton [this season]. I know they’re probably a different task now with a new manager. They play differently and they seem to be playing with a lot more confidence.

"They’ve been doing well of late, it’s going to be such a difficult game for us, but we’re capable of beating them, especially on our home turf as well. We want to make our home place a fortress, it used to be that, we’ve come away from that as late and we want to get back to it."
