Klopp backs Keita to discover top form
Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has praised the recent form of Naby Keita but he knows there is still more to come from the midfielder.
There was a lot of hype surrounding Keita when Liverpool signed the midfielder from RB Leipzig for a reported £53million in August 2017 and that expectancy only intensified as the Guinea international did not join the club until the start of this season.
However, Keita has not quite hit the ground running like many had expected, starting just 12 of Liverpool's 26 Premier League games to date and he is yet to register his first goal in the English top-flight.
That has led to criticism in certain quarters suggesting that Keita does not have a place in Liverpool's first team, but the midfielder did showcase what he can do during the Reds' 3-0 victory over Bournemouth on Saturday.
Klopp was certainly pleased with Keita's performance in that game, as well as his second-half showing against West Ham the previous week, although he has also urged the former Salzburg star to start replicating those performance levels on a more consistent basis.
"You need a good performance. The second half against West Ham was good, the first half wasn’t that good but the second half was really good," Klopp told the Liverpool website when reflecting on Keita's form.
"f you fall into a little hole you have to make sure you get out by yourself. That’s what he did in the second half at West Ham and it was clear this game would be the next step for him.
"It was really nice to see that game and see how the people appreciate it. He is in a lot of situations, passing these little balls through a really tight midfield. It’s just good. And there’s a lot more to come. That was a good one."
