Klopp pleased with refreshed Salah

29th March 2019, 14:29 by Aidan Perkins

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp says Mohamed Salah is refreshed after a short break away from the game during the recent internationals.

Salah was not selected by his country Egypt in the international break over the past fortnight as coach Javier Aguirre wanted to instead look at some younger players in the Africa Nations Cup qualifier against Niger and the friendly against Nigeria.

Salah remains Egypt's key man and will return to the squad later in the year but his omission meant he was able to have a short holiday to recharge his batteries. Klopp welcomed him back to training this week ahead of Sunday's clash with Spurs and believes the forward has benefited from a break.

He told his press conference: "100% he's benefited, getting freshness in this period. Not only for Mo, but the others who weren't involved on international duty."

Salah will hope to break a seven-game goalscoring drought against Tottenham at Anfield as the Reds aim to stay top of the Premier League this weekend.

Klopp knows the run-in will be tense as he hopes to guide the Reds to their first title since 1990, while Liverpool are also into the last eight in the Champions League. The German says there is a lot of hard work to come but wants everyone at the club to enjoy the challenge.

He added: "The only period without any interruption is this one, between now and the end of the season. We are fighting for two things, we will do everything we can.

"We can enjoy it in a different way. Legs on table, watching it. We enjoy working for it, fighting for it. We should enjoy it 100 per cent."
