Lovren pushing for Liverpool start
Defender Dejan Lovren is back available for Liverpool's Premier League clash at Cardiff City on Sunday.
Croatia international Lovren missed the European victory in Porto on Wednesday evening because of illness but Jurgen Klopp has confirmed the centre-back is in contention to play a part in the match.
"We will see. Dejan was ill so he should be available again, we will see that," he said at a press conference. "Pretty much all the rest should be available, I heard nothing after the Porto game."
England international Joe Gomez is also pushing for a place in the match-day squad after he made his first appearance for four months in the midweek victory over in Portugal.
The 21-year-old defender's compatriot Alex-Oxlade Chamberlain is also closing in on a return to first-team action, although Sunday's contest may come too soon for the midfielder.
James Mason grew up in Northumberland so is entrenched in both the football and golf scenes. A low handicap golfer, he also follows Newcastle United and predicts big things under Rafa Benitez.
