Neres on Liverpool shopping list

11th April 2019, 18:06 by Dan McCarthy

Liverpool are reportedly in the market to sign Ajax winger David Neres in the summer for around £40million.

Neres has impressed many for Ajax this season, helping them into the Champions League quarter-finals for the first time since 2003 and he played his part when they managed to hold Juventus to a 1-1 draw on Wednesday evening, scoring the equaliser.

His form has been sensational since moving to Amsterdam in January 2017 from Sao Paulo, and he's scored 12 goals and assisted 15 in 44 appearances this season.

That form led to a maiden Brazil call up in March and he assisted one of the goals in a 3-1 win against the Czech Republic.

Reports state Liverpool want to bolster their attacking options with his signing, in order to lesser the burden on Sadio Mane, Mo Salah, and Roberto Firmino.

However, Jurgen Klopp faces competition as the Reds boss' old club Borussia Dortmund are thought to be interested in signing the 22-year-old as a potential replacement for Jadon Sancho, should the English youngster leave them in the summer.

PSG are also keen on a deal, though they might be hampered due to Financial Fair Play restrictions.
