Neville comments irk Klopp

14th September 2018, 12:05 by James Mason

Jurgen Klopp has hit back at comments from Gary Neville that suggested Liverpool should put all their effort into the Premier League.

Former Manchester United defender Neville suggested the Reds should forget the Champions League and focus completely on winning England's top flight title for the first time since 1990.

It was a bold claim from the 43-year-old given the fact Liverpool lost in the final of Europe's top tournament to Spanish giants Real Madrid last season, and

Klopp has now responded to the comments, telling a press conference: "Gary should come over and tell me exactly how that would work.

"I don't want to be too critical because I don't know exactly how he said it but sitting in an office and talking about football is completely different to doing the job, to be honest.

"But it's an opinion. What did he say about Manchester United in that case? The club he's more interested in. Nothing?"

Liverpool face a tricky trip to Wembley on Saturday to face Tottenham Hotspur before playing host to Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League three days later.
