City going day by day with star

2nd February 2019, 08:00 by Michael Holland

Manchester City are going day by day with Benjamin Mendy with Pep Guardiola not sure whether he will face Arsenal tomorrow.

The defender had suffered a reaction to his knee issues after returning in the Carabao Cup against Burton, which forced him to sit out a couple of days of training.

Mendy was back in training on Friday, but Guardiola could not say for sure whether he would play against Unai Emery's men as City look to close the gap at the top of the table to two points.

Skipper Vincent Kompany sat out training again on Friday, with Guardiola no nearer to knowing when he will be able to return.

"Today, except Vinnie, the others have taken a training session," Guardiola said. "I don’t know whether Mendy will be fit to face Arsenal. After the minutes he played against Burton away, he had two or three days without training.

"In the last two training sessions, he was able to train and we will see day by day."
