Matic set to miss a "few weeks"
Manchester United coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has revealed midfielder Nemanja Matic will miss "a few weeks" due to a muscle problem.
The former Chelsea man was expected to start Sunday's game against Liverpool at Old Trafford.
However, the Serbian was a surprise omission from the match-day squad and Scotland's Scott McTominay stepped in for him during the 0-0 draw.
Matic is now set to be out for the short term at least, with Solskjaer revealing he needs a "few weeks" of treatment.
He told reporters: "It is a big blow. He has had a muscle injury so he'll be out for a few weeks.
"These things happen during the season so we'll just have to manage without him.
"Nemanja, with his experience and his performances of late, has been vital for us in midfield but then again Scott has played these games before. He's got loads of energy and he is an academy player who knows this fixture a lot."
United's injury list was also extended during the match on Sunday. Jesse Lingard, Juan Mata and Ander Herrera were all subbed off during the first half, while Marcus Rashford was forced to play on with an injury.
