McTominay set to be offered new deal

6th December 2019, 11:24 by Dan McCarthy

Manchester United are poised to reward Scott McTominay with another improved pay deal after impressing during this year, according to Old Trafford insiders.

The Red Devils and Scotland midfielder signed a £25,000-per-week, four-year contract back in January, in recognition of his first-team breakthrough last season.

However, such has been his rise to prominence in the United engine room, bosses at the Theatre of Dreams will look to recognise his elevated status early in the new year.

It’s understood the 22-year-old could see his wages increased to around £65,000-per-week, with the promise of further uplifts in the coming seasons.

McTominay’s present agreement runs until 2023, although United also retain the option of extending that by a further year.

The Manchester giants, however, may even look to put the academy graduate further off-limits, in addition to hiking his salary.

Solskjaer flatly denied a request from Celtic to take the starlet on loan last January, and McTominay has started every Premier League game he has been fit for this season.

The starlet was singled out for special praise by his former manager Jose Mourinho, following Wednesday night’s 2-1 victory over Tottenham Hotspur, responsible for handing him his senior chance at United.

The Spurs boss said: “Because of the way we come to the game by the emotional way, they had more emotion that us (United).

“You see for example McTominay’s performance, the globality of his performance  – he was dominant.”

United will certainly now be hoping both they and McTominay can use that victory over the north Londoners as a springboard for the derby showdown against rivals City at the Etihad this Saturday tea-time.

The 12-times capped Scotland international has widely been regarded as one of United’s star performers this season and has scored three Premier League goals.

He netted a 25-yard cracker opener in the 1-1 draw against Arsenal in September and also scored in the 3-1 wins over Norwich and Brighton.
