United boss set for transfer windfall

30th January 2019, 10:41 by Nick Harris

Manchester United will reportedly hand Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as much as £200m to spend this summer if he becomes their permanent boss.

The Norwegian is increasingly seen by many inside the corridors of power at Old Trafford as being the 'right fit' since being appointed caretaker boss after Jose Mourinho's dismissal last month.

United battled back late from two goals down on Tuesday night against Burnley to earn a draw and maintain Solskjaer's unbeaten tenure, further strengthening his hand to be given the job on a full-time basis and the keys to a huge transfer war chest the Red Devils are currently sitting on.

It is another reason why owners the Glazers want to be certain the 45-year-old can be trusted to spend the club's cash wisely, having seen little return for the £350m they lavished upon Mourinho during his two-and-a-half-year stint at the Theatre of Dreams.

The Red Devils are believed to have targeted as many as four new players to bolster their squad ranks in the close season - with Solskjaer said to be privy to who they are chasing.

United have a number of players who could depart at the end of this campaign, increasing the pressure on the next permanent man in the hotseat to hit the ground running with the vast resources being made immediately available.
