United in for West Ham ace

16th June 2019, 02:59 by Michael Holland

West Ham defender Issa Diop is on the wanted list of Manchester United, who are ready to offer £45million plus a player.

The 22-year-old played 38 games for the Hammers last season, and famously impressed Jose Mourinho after his performance against the Red Devils under their former manager.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer also seems suitably impressed enough to launch a bid for the French centre half, who moved to the London Stadium from Toulouse for £22 million last year.

Reports claim United have offered £45m plus an unnamed player, but it is also understood that the Hammers are not keen on selling for anything less than £60m.

Defence, and centre back in particular, is a top priority of Solskjaer's Old Trafford rebuilding process, but he seems certain to miss out on his trio of top targets.

Ajax captain Matthijs De Ligt is looking more like signing for PSG or Barcelona, while Napoli want £100m for Kalidou Koulibaly and Leicester want £80m for Harry Maguire, meaning Diop is now the top target.
