United to scout World Cup Under-20 stars Buletsa and Supriaha

11th December 2019, 11:27 by Simon Barlow

Manchester United are sending their Eastern Europe scout to watch talented Ukrainian wonderkids Serhiy Buletsa and Vladyslav Supriaha in action this weekend.

Supriaha, 19, scored goals in each half as Ukraine beat South Korea 3-1 to win the U-20 World Cup last June and his name will have been entered into virtually every watching scout’s notebook.

His name might also ring a bell to followers of youth football as he scored a memorable equaliser against England in the Uefa Under-19 finals in Finland the summer before.

Buletsa, 20, was awarded the ‘Silver Ball’ at the end of the month-long tournament in Poland, scoring three goals in total – including the crucial winner in their 1-0 semi-final win over Italy.

Both players are currently owned by Dynamo Kiev but have been sent on loan to Dnipro-1, the club to whom Dynamo paid 6.5m euros to sign Supriaha in 2018.

Ukrainian football reporter Igor Tsyganik claims he has seen a request from United’s scouting department to send a representative to the game between Dnipro-1 and Oleksandria on Sunday.

He’s actually got hold of the letter, which was sent to Dnipro-1’s secretary on November 28, some two-and-a-half weeks in advance of the fixture, and published it.

Although the journalist has attempted to redact the names of the United scout in the published picture, it is pretty easy to work out that the name is Krsto Kilibarda – the Red Devils’ scout for Eastern Europe.

United are no doubt on the lookout for fresh talent from all around the globe so it should come as no surprise that they are keeping up to date with two prime talents who were among the world’s best at the Under-20 age group only this summer.

And, make no mistake, these two are not being viewed as potential January additions – even though it looks likely Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will spend in order to bolster his side’s chances of finishing in the top four.
