Benitez full of praise for Ritchie
Newcastle boss Rafael Benitez has been talking up the recent form of Matt Ritchie and he feels the winger will continue to improve.
Scotland international Ritchie has featured regularly for the Magpies this season and he has particularly thrived over recent weeks in an unfamiliar left-wing back role - even providing an assist for Salomon Rondon during Saturday's 1-1 draw at Watford.
The 29-year-old has certainly been impressing Benitez of late, particularly with his attitude both during matches and in training.
"Matt is a worker," Benitez told the Chronicle. "He has enough quality to make these kind of deliveries and assists, and he can also score goals.
"But especially he is someone that is always committed and is always working really hard in every training session and during the games."
Benitez feels Ritchie's competitive spirit will also benefit his side as they bid to steer clear of the Premier League relegation zone and he thinks the former Bournemouth man can continue to improve as a player.
"I’m sure that he will be a better player every single week because he is listening, and he is trying to understand what is going on," Benitez added.
"He is improving and, because he really likes football and to win, and is competitive, he keeps getting better."
