Newcastle eye Guinea midfielder again

10th October 2018, 11:33 by Simon Barlow

Newcastle scouts saw AEK Athens and Olympiakos face off on Sunday with winger Tasos Bakasetas and midfielder Mady Camara impressing.

Magpies officials were in attendance at the Spyros Louis Stadium for the clash between last season's champions and the club that have dominated Greek football over the past decade.

The match finished 1-1 with local reports claiming AEK winger Bakasetas will have caught the eye following his 91st-minute equaliser for the hosts.

However, Camara is likely to have been the main reason for the scouting mission after it was revealed last month that Newcastle were very impressed with the 21-year-old midfielder in Olympiakos' Europa League tie against Burnley in August.

The Guinea international is understood to be close to agreeing a new deal with the Piraeus club, which will see his wages hiked up but the expiry date on the deal remain at June 2023.

However, the new agreement could have a release clause fee inserted to ensure Olympiakos get full value for their asset if they decide to sell sooner than anticipated.
