Newcastle sniffing around for 25m striker
Newcastle have reportedly asked about loaning striker Simone Verdi from Napoli for the rest of the season.
The 26-year-old striker is only just back from injury and has been included on the bench for Napoli's last two matches against SPAL and Inter, although he was unused.
The Serie A giants paid 25m euros to sign him from Bologna last summer, but a lack of form and fitness has seen him only repay them with one league goal so far this season.
Verdi is said to be considering an option to move away from Napoli in January in order to play regular football and Rafa Benitez's connections with one of his former clubs could aid the Magpies.
According to Italian daily Il Roma, Newcastle have spoken to the Partenopei and have proposed signing Verdi on a loan deal for the latter half of the season in January.
