Newcastle submit double offer

13th January 2018, 15:01 by Bobbie Jackson

Reports claim that Newcastle have submitted loan offers for Liverpool’s Danny Ings and Leicester’s Islam Slimani.

The Magpies are expected to reinforce their ranks during the winter transfer window with Rafael Benitez making it clear that he needs additions to boost their chances of survival.

Dwight Gayle and Joselu are Newcastle’s joint top-scorers in the Premier League this term with three goals each, while the Magpies have only found the back of the net 20 times during their 22 outings.

The report claims that Benitez is not wasting any time this month and has already submitted two separate bids to bolster his forward line.

Ings has been on the fringes at Anfield since joining Liverpool from Burnley due to a string of injuries and a loan move away for the second half of the term would appear to suit all three parties.

Meanwhile, Slimani has struggled to meet expectations following his £28million move from Sporting Lisbon in the summer of 2016, although he did recently score in the win over Huddersfield when handed a rare start.

Adrien Silva’s availability for Leicester could potentially force Slimani further down the pecking order at the King Power Stadium and Benitez is hoping to take advantage of the situation.

The north east side appear to be hedging their bets by lodging both bids at the same time but it could prove disastrous for Newcastle’s current strikers if both are accepted.
