Schar eager to hit safety goal
Newcastle defender Fabian Schar believes it is imperative the club secure their Premier League status as soon as possible.
The Toon missed the chance to take a big step towards Premier League safety last Saturday when they went down to a 1-0 defeat to the Eagles courtesy of a late Luka Milivojevic penalty.
The Magpies get another crack at moving 10 points clear of the bottom three when they take on in-form Leicester City on Friday night and Schar is keen to galvanise the players for the trip to King Power Stadium.
The Switzerland international, who made his return from suspension against Crystal Palace, says Newcastle need to try and hit their safety target as soon as possible to avoid any late-season nerves.
"We need some more points to get safe, and we want to get them as fast as possible," he told the Chronicle. "The last game was a big chance, especially when we were playing at home after winning our five previous home games. We wanted to keep that run going, but we couldn't do it. We have to forget the game now and look forward.
"All the teams in this league are so competitive, so every day has to be a good day for you to win games. It's always difficult. There are no easy games – the Premier League is really hard and we know that. It is the same for a lot of the teams."
