Schar ready to return

5th April 2019, 20:10 by Tom Hill

Newcastle boss Rafa Benitez will be boosted by Fabian Schar's return when his team take on Crystal Palace this weekend.

The Magpies defender has missed the last two matches due to suspension but he is now pushing for a place in the starting XI.

Paul Dummett or Florian Lejuene could make way, but Benitez could still be without Isaac Hayden, Mo Diame and DeAndre Yedlin.

The trio all face fitness tests ahead of the match with Jonjo Shelvey and Ki Sung-yueng on standby to deputise.

A win on Saturday could move Newcastle a step closer to Premier League survival and they have kept clean sheets in six of their last seven home encounters against Palace in all competitions.
